OnePIN earns TRUSTe's Privacy Seal for Commitment to Consumer Privacy
WESTBOROUGH, MA, USA, December 16, 2002 - OnePIN, Inc. today announced that it
has earned the TRUSTe Privacy Seal. Today’s announcement demonstrates that
OnePIN respects its customers by upholding the privacy protection guidelines
pioneered by TRUSTe.
Exemplifying its commitment to consumer privacy and security, OnePIN’s Web site
has passed TRUSTe’s extensive evaluation of its privacy practices and will
follow TRUSTe’s stringent requirements of notice, choice, access, security and
redress. Beginning immediately, OnePIN will prominently display the TRUSTe
Privacy Seal on its Web site. By clicking on the TRUSTe Privacy Seal, Web site
visitors can easily review the details of the company’s privacy and security
policy. The TRUSTe Privacy Seal distinguishes OnePIN as a responsible and
trustworthy company invested in clearly communicating how the company’s Web
site handles personal information.
“Privacy is an extremely important issue, especially to all of us at OnePIN,”
said Doug Harvey, Vice President of OnePIN. “People entrust their contact
information to OnePIN, and rely on OnePIN to adhere to the precise security
designations set by each person regarding who can access that contact
information. TRUSTe’s independent certification of OnePIN’s privacy practices
reaffirms that our members will always have complete control over their contact
information, and that OnePIN will never sell, rent or disclose their contact
information to third parties without their express permission. We’re proud to
display the TRUSTe logo on the OnePIN web site.”
The TRUSTe Privacy Seal is a consumer branded symbol that signifies that a Web
site has posted a privacy statement and, moreover, that the company’s Web site
information gathering and dissemination practices address the elements of
notice, choice, access, security and redress outlined in the Federal Trade
Commission’s Fair Information Practices. Specifically, TRUSTe’s members agree
to:
-
disclose their information gathering and dissemination practices,
-
give consumers choice – through opt-in or opt-out – to limit any secondary uses
of their personal information,
-
provide consumers with access to their personal information to correct any
inaccuracies, and ensure that reasonable security mechanisms are being used to
protect the data that is collected.
Oversight and Watchdog Dispute Resolution
A cornerstone of the TRUSTe Privacy Seal and Certification Program is the
ongoing monitoring and Watchdog Consumer Dispute Resolution mechanism. Through
Web site audits and “seeding”, TRUSTe regularly monitors its seal program
participants to ensure the integrity of the privacy statement. In addition,
TRUSTe provides consumers and organizations an effective method to build trust
through the Watchdog Dispute Resolution mechanism, an easy-to-use service for
consumers to resolve their privacy disputes.
“By becoming a TRUSTe licensee, OnePIN gives its customers a clear signal that
it is trustworthy and respects the privacy wishes of the people who visit its
Web site,” said Fran Maier, Executive Director of TRUSTe. “We are pleased to
have OnePIN as part of our distinguished roster of participants in the TRUSTe
Privacy Seal program.”
OnePIN joins TRUSTe’s worldwide membership base of nearly 2,000 Web sites, with
representation from virtually every vertical segment on the Internet.
