OnePIN receives EU Safe Harbor certification
WESTBOROUGH, MA, December 3, 2003 – OnePIN, Inc., a leading provider of
electronic contact information management products and services, today
announced that its website has been verified as conforming to the Safe Harbor
Privacy Framework set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce.
TRUSTe recently performed an audit of www.onepin.com and verified that OnePIN’s
privacy policy, regarding personal information received from the European Union
through its website, coincides with Safe Harbor Principles.
-
The website privacy policy is being complied with and
-
Individuals providing personal information through its website are informed of
the mechanisms through which they may pursue complaints.
“Safe Harbor Certification is an extremely important step for our company,” said
Feyzi Celik, the founder and CEO of OnePIN. “It confirms OnePIN’s dedication to
customer privacy and assures our rapidly expanding overseas customer base that
we are compliant with European Union privacy regulations. In addition, this
certification will mark the next chapter of OnePIN’s growth into the world’s
premier and most trusted contact information service.”
About Safe Harbor
The European Commission’s Directive on Data Protection went into effect in
October, 1998, and would prohibit the transfer of personal data to non-European
Union nations that do not meet the European “adequacy” standard for privacy
protection. While the United States and the European Union share the goal of
enhancing privacy protection for their citizens, the United States takes a
different approach to privacy from that taken by the European Union. In order
to bridge these different privacy approaches and provide a streamlined means
for U.S. organizations to comply with the Directive, the U.S. Department of
Commerce in consultation with the European Commission developed a "safe harbor"
framework. The safe harbor — approved by the EU in July of 2000 — is an
important way for U.S. companies to avoid experiencing interruptions in their
business dealings with the EU or facing prosecution by European authorities
under European privacy laws.
